What Is Girls on the Run?
Girls on the RunŽ of Greater Sacramento (GOTRGS) is a non-profit
organization dedicated to helping young girls in grades 3 to 8 to make
choices for healthy living and community responsibility. Our
after-school running programs utilize an innovative curriculum to
focus on building self-esteem and improving physical and emotional
well-being during the most challenging years of adolescence.
Our Mission:
To
educate and prepare girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy
living.
Our Vision:
We empower, inspire, and
encourage girls and young women in our community through
physical activity, education, and mentoring.
Our purpose is to foster self-understanding,
goal setting, and encourage emotional, social, mental,
physical, and spiritual development. We help girls learn to
respect themselves and others for who they are, not how they
look.We are recognized
as the premier after-school program for girls in the greater
Sacramento area. Our program serves over 30 schools, with 480
girls and 60 coaches participating in our program annually.
Our participants, coaches, board members,
and volunteers function in an environment that maximizes
opportunity for personal growth and the building of
self-esteem. Participants go on to be powerful leaders, and
our program is the model for other programs across the country
to emulate.
We maintain a high and measurable degree of
continuity and consistency in our coaches and programs. Over
75% of our coaches and girls repeat our courses.
Our Values:
The girls come
first.
We work together as a team.
We show integrity in everything we do.
We are open to change and diversity.
We live the values we teach.
